Throughout the course of each year we will be highlighting some of the many up and coming animal events that are being held across the country that may be of interest to you.

- Ballinasloe International Horse Fair (October 3rd - 11th)
A nine-day extravaganza of all things equestrian, with entertainment, music and great family fun, the 170th Ballinasloe International October Fair & Festival is held in the town of Ballinasloe, County Galway. The equestrian days are Saturday, Sunday and Monday, 3rd, 4th and 5th October. On the Sunday and Monday the Fairgreen is the place to be, with every breed of horse and pony on display from the beautiful Connemara Pony to trotting ponies and wonderful Irish draughts. Head to the Showgrounds on Saturday 10th October for Country Fair Day, a Horse & Foal Fair, the highlight of which is the very popular All-Ireland Foal Competition.

- RDS Pet Expo (October 9th - 11th)
Pet Expo is Ireland’s only dedicated consumer Pet Exhibition featuring everything that is relevant to the ownership of your family pet. Now in its 3rd year, Pet Expo 2009 returns to the RDS, Dublin, as a 3-day consumer show open to the animal loving public with a wider variety of pets, pet products, service providers, entertainers, clubs and organisations that cater to pets.

- Maam Cross Fair (October 27th)
Connemara Pony enthusiasts from around the world will be in Maam Cross for the Maam Cross Fair on the 27th October next. The historic one-day fair stems from the tradition of local farmers selling their surplus produce at the crossroads in order to supplement the meagre living which they eked from the rocky Connemara landscape. The fir has grown to become a major event in Connemara, and features cattle, sheep and farm produce, as well as the popular Connemara ponies.
